Pat Miletich is a retired mixed martial artist (MMA), who is well-known for his fighting skills in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He founded the Miletich Fighting Systems, which trains some of the most popular and talented fighters in MMA, such as UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Hughes.
In high school, Miletich wrestled and played football for Bettendorf High. He originally planned to play football after he graduated, but he eventually decided to wrestle in junior college instead. His mother became ill due to heart problems and he left school to take care of her. In order to help support her, as well as help pay for bills; Pat began to fight .
At the age 26, he started his MMA training. Miletich trained with Coach Alvino Pena, who got him into a Renzo Gracie seminar. When he finished his training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, that same friend got him into the Battle of Masters, a MMA tournament in 1995 in Chicago.
Miletich took some time off from professional fighting to recover from various chronic injuries. He was even scheduled to fight Frank Tig at WFA, but pulled out because of an injury. However, he did return in September 2006 to fight Renzo Gracie in an International Fight League super fight battle. Miltetich was held in a guillotine choke; he retired again.
Now he runs the Miletich Fighting Systems Gym in Bettendorf, Iowa. It is a premier MMA training academy where Miletich trained and coached 11 UFC world champions. In addition to this, Miletich also coaches the two-time IFL champions, the Quad City Silverbacks.
